STAY LUCKY HAS ARRIVED!
Lucky's Story.
Lucky Boy was only 3 1/2 years old when he suddenly got very sick on December 14th, and then tragically I had to send him to the rainbow bridge on December 16th. While HCM may have been present, his symptoms and test results showed a massive, sudden organ failure which resulted in his having to leave me much too young.
Lucky was loved worldwide, his enchanting pictures and angelic gaze made him a favorite when our pictures were used in magazines and blogs. While appearing elegant and composed in photos, in real life he was a gentle, clumsy giant who sucked on my hand from kitten hood until he was just too big, but he still tried.
At 12 lbs and standing almost 16" tall, he was the Jimmy Stewart of cats, and the Scooby Doo at the same time.
I posted about Lucky and over 300 people joined me in my tears, telling me how much they loved him and that his passing hit them hard. I had no idea that when I cried, so many of you cried with me.
To help me through my grief, and to keep going as I am responsible for my store now and have people who work with and for me, I started fundraising in Lucky's name to get the money to have Nofuratu McKnight 's genome sequence done by the 99 Lives Project 99 Lives and we raised close to $1500 in Lucky's name in only 2 days and donated it. Nofuratu Thenakedcat has mild to moderate HCM and is 8 years old. The 99 Lives project is finding the markers for many diseases, to improve the health of all cats, no matter the breed. The page is fascinating, and I am going to continue to fundraise for them.
Whether you go to their website to read, donate or just watch their video on Facebook, they are a worthy cause and I hope to have the t shirts done and ready to order for both pets and people in the next week.

A little more about Lucky:
Lucky starred in many publications and in a great layout by the vegan fashion magazine http://www.LAFashionistaCompassionista.com/
He was the exclusive star or our part of the layout, and was also used on the table of contents, a well as the opening page of the spread.
He was featured in the very first issue of Owned By A Sphynx Magazine wearing rock and roll clothes and wigs, and again on the back cover when we were the featured artist.
My big lovable boy can never be replaced, but I am so glad I have so many pictures and so much video of him so he can live forever in our hearts, if not in my arms.
Love you Lucky Boy. Miss you forever.

"The 99 Lives cat genome sequencing project will help ALL cat breeds, and even humans, by providing a database of Feline genes accessible to scientists. This will help find the genetic cause of diseases like Cancer, Obesity, Diabetes, Asthma, Polycystic Kidney Disease etc., including heart diseases like Sphynx HCM- Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy."
Nofuratu Thenakedcat
Amazing news!!! I am going to be whole genome sequenced by Dr.Lyon's "99 Lives Project" to try and find the gene responsible for HCM!! This will help ALL cats, not just Sphynx & help with many diseases, not just HCM! The catch? We need to raise $3000 to do it. If everyone pitches in we can do this! Even $1 will help! I am taking donations & selling calendars. With so many Sphynx lovers & so many breeds of cats affected by HCM I expect everyone to help this post go viral! Here is our chance to DO SOMETHING about HCM!!! PLEASE SHARE THIS POST with EVERYONE you know!!! Friends with Sphynx or HCM pos. cats, breeders, cat groups etc. (Calendars are $20 or $25 with shipping or you can send a donation via paypal/etransfer) WE CAN DO THIS!! |
